Defending champions Tusker have further closed the gap between them and leaders Kakamega Homeboyz following a 1-0 win over hosts FC Talanta in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday afternoon.
The Brewers got their goal in the 32nd minute through Rodgers Ouma who fired a rocket into the FC Talanta net to hand the visitors their 15th win of the season.
Tusker now have 52 points after 28 matches, three points adrift of Homeboyz who are in action on against Wazito in their backyard of Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday.
Robert Matano is determined to defend the title he won last season with the team and has vowed to take the title race down to the wire which is happening if they fine run in the second leg of the season is anything to go by.
“We must be at our best. For them (Homeboyz), let them do what they can while we do what we can and see how it ends,” Matano said in a previous interview.
The two sides meet next weekend in a potential title decider but Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala has downplayed the talk of relinquishing the lead to Tusker.
According to Mwalala who is determined to win the club’s first league title, the gong is theirs to lose.
