The second leg of the 2021/22 Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) season kicked off over the weekend, with six matches being played across Saturday and Sunday.
Of the only match that was played on Saturday, debutants Bunyore Starlets got the better of Wadadia FC by beating them 3-0 at the Mumboha Stadium in Luanda Vihiga County.
Prisca Ambale, Bracksides Itambe and Dorcus Anyango were on target for the visitors who inflicted more than just a loss on the hosts.
Wadadia had their head coach Godfrey Mabonga red carded while their goalkeeper Monica Odato was rushed to hospital after sustaining serious head injury.
Bunyore got the revenge after being hammered 6-0 by Wadadia in the first leg and the win is a huge step towards their survival in the top tier.
“We needed this win badly and we are happy with the results. The girls fought from the start and showed desire and determination to win. Wadadia underrated us so the players had a point to prove that they are not underdogs or pushovers,” said Bunyore Starlets coach Zacharia Amakhanga.
Of the five matches that were played on Sunday, Ulinzi Starlets were the biggest winners as they condemned Kangemi Ladies to a 7-0 loss at the Ruaraka Grounds.
Siliya Rasoha, Sheryl Andiba and Emily Auma were on tarhet for the soliders in the opening half before Lanoline Aoko got a double with Margaret Ondiro and Mary Akumu scoring one each in the second half to sum up a dominant display.
