Sofapaka Part Ways with Head Coach Ken Odhiambo

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka have parted ways with head coach Ken Odhiambo bringing to an end their 15-month association.

The divorce follows a string of poor results that has seen the club stagnate in the bottom half, currently 13th on the log with a paltry 27 points from the 22 games they have played so far this season.

“Sofapaka would like to announce that it has parted ways with head coach Ken Odhiambo on mutual consent. The club would like to thank coach Ken Odhiambo for his time with Sofapaka and wishes him all the best in future endeavors,” the club said in a statement.

The 2009 champions are on a five match winless run, with their last victory coming on February 12 when they got the better of Wazito 2-1 at the Kasarani Annex, their sixth win of the season.

The former Harambee Stars assistant was roped in from another Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side Bandari FC in January  2021, and led them to a 12th place finish last season with 38 points from 34 matches.

Odhiambo’s assistant David Ouma who enjoyed unprecedented success during his time as the head coach of the national women’s soccer team Harambee Starlets will take over Batoto Ba Mungu at least until the end of the current campaign, the club said.

“David Ouma has been elevated to the position of the head coach with immediate effect. In the interim, the club will continue the fight to end the season in the top five of the league,” the statement adds.

Ouma’s first assignment is away to FC Talanta on April 3 at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi.
