An Old Boys’ Show as Police FC & Ingwe Battle to a Scoring Draw

It was a show of old boys as AFC Leopards and Kenya Police FC played to a 1-1 draw in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Police FC who had well thrown shade at AFC Leopards days and even hours to the game, were the better side in the opening 45 minutes, finding the back of the net in the 35th minute through former AFC Leopards forward Elvis Rupia.

The Harambee Stars striker ditched Ingwe at the start of the season for Saudi Arabian Club Bisha FC but did not last long there, making a return to the country to ink a deal with Police in January.

The law enforcers looked determined to bag maximum points, especially after edging out record champions Gor Mahia 2-0 last weekend in Kisumu in what was head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s first match in charge.

In bid to increase firepower in the second half, AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems introduced forward John Mark Makwatta who ditched Police FC in the midseason transfer window to make return to the den.

His tactics paid off as Makwatta scored on his second AFC Leopards debut, converting from the penalty spot in the 82 minute to have the score line read 1-1 in the process salvaging a point for Ingwe.

The 13-time champions who have won six, drawn ten and lost six of the 22 games they have played this season are 11th on the FKF Premier League log with 28 points, same as Police FC who occupy 10th place due to a superior goal difference.

The league heads into a two-week break and when it returns on April 2, the two teams will clash again, but this time Police FC will be the hosts.
