Ex-Mathare United Coach Salim Ali Gets Revenge over the Slum Boys with Posta Rangers

Salim Ali got his revenge over his former employers Mathare United after leading his new side of Posta Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Slum Boys in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League at the Kasarani Annex on Thursday afternoon.

Ali was sacked by Mathare United last May and was not pleased with the manner in which he was relieved of his services, leaving, a sad man, the club he had called home for over a decade.

“It was a surprise, because first it was a phone call, something that has never happened. I told him we cannot discuss this via a phone call but a meeting, and then I hung up on him (Bob Munro),” Ali said in an interview on May 18, 2021, the day he was sacked.

The tactician had not been involved in club football since then until February 2022 when he was appointed by the mailmen to stand in for head coach Stanley Okumbi who left for Germany to further his education.

This was the first game that Mathare United had played with Salim Ali on the other side, and true to his wishes, he got the better of them, probably comforting himself over what he termed as injustice to him last May.

In the other matches of the afternoon, while Nzoia Sugar continued with their rise from the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over hosts Vihiga Bullets at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz extended their lead at the top of the log by beating hosts Ulinzi Stars 1-0 at the Thika Stadium while Bandari recorded a third successive win with a 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
