German Tactician Andreas Spier Reacts to His First Loss as Gor Mahia Head Coach

Andreas Spier suffered his first loss as Gor Mahia head coach on Sunday since taking over the reins from Britton Mark Harrison in January.

K’Ogalo were served a 2-0 beating by visiting Kenya Police FC at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu in the Football Kenya Federation on Sunday.

The beating was served by their immediate former assistant coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo who fired by the club in January alongside Harrison.

Spier was far from pleased by the match day show from the record Kenyan champions and decried their lackluster performance on home turf that saw them further lose ground on the leading cast.

“I am obviously disappointed with how we played today. We did not close down the channels and allowed the opponents to dominate on the ball. We also failed to create anything meaningful especially in the first half unlike Police. Credit to them,” the German tactician lamented.

His Police FC counterpart Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo was elated by the win, terming it a perfect start as he only took over the team days to the duel which was meant to be baptism by fire.

“This is a perfect start for us and for me. To some extent I was even surprised by the performance because it was phenomenal against a team like Gor Mahia. We created a lot of goal scoring chances and we pressed them really well forcing them to play in their own half which did not pose any threat to us. Overall great performance after just a week together,” Omollo said after the match.

Omollo was appointed last Thursday to take charge of the law enforcers who parted ways with his predecessor John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla over a string of poor performances.

Gor Mahia stayed fourth with 38 points from 22 games while Police FC rose from 13th to 10th with 27 points, 22 rounds into the 24-match season.
