FKF-PL: Everyone Says They Will Cheat the Drop Axe; If So, Then, Who Will Go Down?

The top four candidates for relegation from the football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League this season are Mathare United, Vihiga Bullets, Wazito and Nzoia Sugar in that order.

Mathare United who survived the axe last season by a whisker, are glued to the bottom of the log with a paltry 11 points having won only two matches of the 22 they have played this season while Vihiga Bullets are just a position above with four extra points having played an equal number of games.

The two teams are in the automatic drop zone while Wazito is in the 16th position also known as the playoff off zone with 20 points, just two below Nzoia Sugar who managed to pull themselves out of the drop zone by stunning Posta Rangers 1-0 at the Ruaraka Grounds.

Coincidentally, the four teams have had a change in the head coach position in the season Evans Mafuta paving way for Juma Abdalla at Vihiga Bullets, Ezekiel Akwana exiting for John Kamau to take over at Mathare United, Francis Kimanzi being replaced by Fred Ambani at Wazito as Salim Babu took over from Ibrahim Shikanda at Nzoia Sugar.

Despite being in these positions and the league just 12 matches to the end, each of the four coaches insists his side will cheat the relegation axe and play in the Kenyan top tier at least for one more season.

Time and again, similar statements have come from his Wazito, Bullets and Mathare counterparts, which begs the question, who will go down if not the trio?

Above the quadruple and seemingly reachable are Ulinzi Stars (26 points), Bidco United (27 points), Sofapaka (27 points), AFC Leopards (27 points) and Police FC (27 points).

But will that be attainable for the quadruple? Nzoia Sugar looks better placed. A relegation dogfight is here ladies and gentlemen.
