KCB Going Through a Rough Patch, Head Coach Zico Admits

An abysmal run of five matches without a single win has seen last season’s runners up KCB drop a whopping 13 points off the top spot in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.

Of the five matches, the Bankers have drawn four and lost one and their last win was on January 23rd when they beat Posta Rangers 2-1.

Interestingly before the win over the mailmen, they had lost two and drawn one of the last three matches.

In total KCB have played 21 matches this season, won eight, drawn nine and lost four, a performance that has left them 6th on the FKF Premier League log with 33 points, 13 points adrift of pacesetters Kakamega Homeboyz who have just lost one this season.

Head coach Zedekiah Otieno, fondly known as Zico, has admitted that his lads are way below their standards last season when they were jostling for the top two positions at such a time.

The former Harambee Stars coach says they are undergoing a bumpy period and according to him, a dip in form is not uncommon among clubs at some point in the season.

“For us we are in a very unfamiliar territory at the moment as a team but knowing very well that in a season at a certain point, you always have your lows,” Otieno said.

Despite the massive gap between them and the top spot, the experienced coach believes the league title is still within reach and is confident of rallying his troops to a momentous finish to the season which is just 13 games away.

“We hope that this is our low in the league and we are just trying to work each and every training session trying to give our best so that we can improve on our performances. We must, however find a way to keep moving forward,” said the former Harambee Stars head coach.

The Bankers are next at home to struggling Wazito FC on Saturday afternoon with Zico confident of snapping up their five-match winless run.
