Sofapaka defender Daniel Guya has urged his teammates to bounce back from last weekend’s FKF Premier League defeat to defending champions Tusker ahead of Sunday’s match against KCB.
The 12th placed Batoto Ba Mungu suffered their sixth loss of the campaign after going down 2-0 to resurgent Tusker in Taita Taveta.
But just like Sofapaka, the bankers also lost 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars.
Having won only once in their last seven fixtures, Guya says the pressure has started to mount on them.
“Definitely, there is pressure on us as the playing unit to get the right results. We have expectations from our management, technical bench, supporters and everyone associated with the club. The new year hasn’t been good for us, we have not had a good run of results and, with no doubt, it has piled some pressure on us, but I believe we have enough experience in the team to handle it all,” said Guya.
“Our preparation for Saturday’s encounter is pretty good. Despite Tusker’s defeat, we as players have been positive because we want to get right on Saturday.
“We are facing a strong opponent yet again, but we are equal to the task. We want to turn around our poor run and Saturday’s encounter is so important to us and offers a perfect opportunity. We want to give our best and I strongly believe this is going to be our turning point in the season.”
He added: “As a playing unit, we have our targets and expectations as well, but we have not been able to achieve much. Our main undoing has been consistency. I hope as a team, once we get on good footing, we will get some good runs of results.”
