Matasi reveals secret behind Tusker’s recent impressive form

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has credited compactness and unity for Tusker’s recent impressive run in the FKF Premier League.

The defending champions seems to have turned around their fortunes after a poor start to the season as they have gone seven matches without losing.

The brewers saw off Sofapaka 2-0 last Friday to move into the third spot on the table with 33 points, seven behind league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.

But it is because of Matasi that Tusker have been able to rediscover their form as the former AFC Leopards and Posta Rangers goalkeeper has kept seven clean sheets in a row and inspire them to seven unbeaten matches.

Matasi has so far kept nine clean sheets in 11 matches he has played for the brewers this season.

“We were playing well and losing because of conceding easy goals and I just stirred up the boys and told them that let’s first work on conceding goals. I said that we should not concede in games and that was our starting point,” said Matasi.

“I know that in this team we have scorers and if we can keep a clean sheet, there is a high chance we will get a goal. These simple fundamentals have worked. We have been compact as a team, worked together and everyone is going an extra mile to assist the team get good results.”

Tusker face unpredictable Kenya Police in their next match at Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.
