CECAFA planning to engage Kenyan government to host its headquarters in the country

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) is planning to engage the Kenyan government to allow them host its headquarters in the country.

This comes barely a few days after the regional football body held its Annual General Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.

As per the resolutions of the meeting held on February 25, a strong team led by the CECAFA president, Wallace Karia will travel to Kenya to interact with the government about a long term agreement.

Apart from Kenya’s FA which was recently suspended by the world governing body Fifa due to government interference, the meeting was attended by all the other 11 member states with CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba also gracing it.

Having failed to access its offices and documents at Goal Project, Kasarani a home to Football Kenya Federation which was locked down last year after the government disbanded the federation over allegations of misappropriation of funds, Ugandan FA president Moses Hassim Magogo said the regional body must now hold talks with the Kenyan government.

“We need a strong CECAFA team to go and meet the Kenya government to discuss a long term agreement, but also to see that our offices are re-opened so that we can access documents,” said Magogo.

FKF offered CECAFA the office space last year just before the federation was disbanded by the government and a Caretaker Committee appointed to run football matters in the country.
