The superstars of Paris Saint-Germain come to the Champions League party, as Pochettino’s Parisiens power past Club Brugge and race into the Last 16!

Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi each netted twice, as Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain beat Club Brugge 4-1 at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, to complete their UEFA Champions League (UCL) group campaign.

A loss to Manchester City in their previous match meant PSG were certain to finish second in Group B, but Brugge needed a victory to earn their place in the UEFA Europa League.

Yet, it was the hosts who came flying out of the tunnel, with France international striker, Mbappé, finding the back of the Brugge net twice in the first seven minutes.

First, the forward coolly side-footed home a rebound from Idrissa Gueye’s near-post drive, to become the youngest player ever to register 30 goals in the UCL, at 22 years and 352 days old.

Mbappé then doubled his tally for the night with a stunning volley from Ángel Di María’s beautifully weighted, lofted through-ball, which completely took out the Brugge defence.

“We took this match seriously and we delivered a complete performance,” Mbappé said. “We can still improve. The bottom line is that we need to manage our weak times better. We have weak times, which are maybe much too weak.’

Messi found his first of the game on the 38 minutes, with a fantastic curling effort from just outside the box, having previously been thwarted by Brugge goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet.

Brugge looked threatening at the start of the second half and Philippe Clement’s men had numerous attempts on the home side’s goal repelled by keeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The visitors were finally rewarded on 68 minutes, when Mats Rits reduced the deficit after he was teed up by Noa Lang’s unselfish pass.

However, Messi got a fourth for PSG from the penalty spot, 14 minutes from time, to effectively kill off the Belgian club’s European dreams for this season.
